Scalp Micropigmentation

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is an innovative, non-surgical technique for camouflaging hair loss in men and women. Using a specialized SMP pen the technician implants pigment into the client's scalp in the form of tiny dots that mimic the appearance of closely-shaven hair. The result is the look of thicker hair, a natural, youthful appearance that restores the client's hairline, enhancing the look of their hair and scalp, improving confidence.

Anyone dealing with hair loss that doesn't respond to various treatments can benefit from SMP including those experiencing:

  • Male and female pattern hair loss

  •  Scarring alopecia

  •  Scarring

  •  Burns

It works for all ages, skin types and colours. Before starting any treatment it’s important to have a consultation with your micropigmentation artist/practitioner. The best type of consultation is always face to face as this allows the scalp micropigmentation artist to explain the treatment in full, answer all your questions in detail, evaluate your scalp, estimate what is involved, get an idea of your expectations, talk about how you will shave or wear your hair after the treatment is complete and so on. The consultation is also a good opportunity if you’re already shaving your head to allow the artist to draw in your new hairline and work with you to get a style you are happy with. Ultimately the cost of your procedure is determined by the number of treatment hours you require at our clinic, and the level of specialized skill that is needed to deliver your result.

A typical SMP treatment usually requires 2-4 sessions, each lasting 2-3 hours, to complete. The number of sessions may increase if there are extenuating factors such as poor skin condition, a history of hair system usage, scar tissue and so on. The length of each session usually increases in cases where the client has advanced alopecia or a moderate to severe skin condition. Some procedures, for example scar-only treatments, hairline reconstructions, small areas of alopecia or treatment top-ups may take less time, and this will be taken into account in your treatment quotation.
